The Civil War Monument, originally called the Bohemian Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, was dedicated on May 29, 1892. The dedication ceremonies were described in an article published by the Chicago Daily Tribune on May 30, 1892. See page 3 of the Spring 2005 Newsletter. Designed by artist, Joseph Klir, the bronze statue represents a private soldier in full fatigue uniform, holding a flag in his left hand and a bayoneted musket in his right. |
